It is such a special moment when friends ask me to photograph their family. There is a lot of stress involved in doing work for someone because I want to make sure it makes them happy and that I produce a product that they will enjoy for years to come. My goal in photographing a family is to capture the real moments. The real smiles. The real love. I always tell moms and dads to let the kids run. It is perfectly fine if they do not want to sit still for 100 photos in a row - who does?! I have definitely found that I would rather spend extra time letting them play in between than having anyone stressed about the perfect pose. When I do call them back in for a couple minutes and ask them to assume a position, the smiles and happiness are so much more genuine. Plus, I get some time for photographing moms and dads and I can usually capture a few special moments of the kids playing!
I recently had the chance to put all this into action when I photographed some very good friends of mine! Their boys seem to be in the sweet spot for family photos. They are old enough to follow directions, but young enough to not have an attitude about being told what to do! Plus - they are just really good kids! (Kudos Mom and Dad!)
While doing this shoot, I caught the real moments...
The real smiles...
And above all, the real love...
I can't thank my friends enough for putting their trust in me to capture these moments for them. I hope to have the chance to capture them for years to come as their boys continue to grow. I suspect they will always be fun to photograph!
