A Walk in the Woods

Yesterday I had the chance to get out of the house and photograph a friend of mine with her two kids. She is also a single mom and we have always been able to be there for each other through our journeys. It was so great to get a chance to see her and her beautiful kids! We were talking about how I have just started getting really involved in photography and she could really relate with the idea of how I felt I had lost my own identity through motherhood.

The photoshoot was really fun. We went to a walking path with some really cute bridges over a stream. My friend's son was especially excited about the water! It was fun to see how taken he was with nature. Her daughter was really reserved at first so I got down to her level and connected with her to try to help her feel more comfortable.

It is hard for kids to meet someone new and immediately be ready to be photographed. It has to be especially hard when we have all been cooped up more than usual due to COVID. At one point during the session I could see that they were over it, so I let each of the kids take turns helping me. They both got a chance to look through the viewfinder and snap a picture. It really seemed to help reengage them and that was when I got some of the cutest photos of each of them with their mom as well as all of them together as a family!

I am looking forward to learning more and getting the chance to take more family photos! You can check out the full album here: Kristin & Kids
